Abstract

The project proposal E-Vita (European life experiences) is centred on game-based and intergenerational learning. Individual experiences, biographies, customs, knowledge and cross-border European experiences from various European countries will be documented and shared in a motivating, engaging serious-games (SGs) web environment. This will be achieved by developing a set of European cultural games based on the experiences of senior citizens. The approach rests on the principle that learning from one's own experiences and those of others is not merely a way to nurture knowledge. It is a means to share social and emotional intelligence, and it is about empathy for the lives of others.

The project emphasises the following aspects:

  1. Applied research on game-based learning – innovative concepts and didactic models, needed to develop the opportunities that game-based learning represents for knowledge sharing. We will develop and test a learning and exchange (web-based SGs) environment that meets the interests, motivation, competences, experiences and demands of older people and is engaging for everyone interested in learning from the experience & knowledge of older generations, no matter what generation they belong to themselves.
  2. Intergenerational learning and exchange processes among seniors and younger generations – we will promote lifelong learning and intergenerational processes in an adequate and informal fashion.
  3. Intercultural competences – we will encourage experience sharing that reflects on cultural competences. Within the framework of the project, older people who have experienced several historical periods and events and are knowledgeable about the habits, experiences etc. of times past, will have the opportunity to reflect and share their experiences as well as to learn from the experiences of others.
  4. Promoting European citizenship and identity – those who are able to comprehend European history and culture and the achievements of the European integration process, those who know of its context and consequences, will be enabled to act sensibly and socially in the present and future, and to take on responsibility in the sense of European active citizenship, and hence strengthen European cohesion and understanding. E-Vita is a target for all educational professionals and life long learners

Stated Objectives

e-Vita project promotes and investigates pedagogy driven innovation, defining new approaches to problem-based and contextualised learning as well as knowledge-transfer through the integration of Game Based Learning (GBL) with intergenerational learning concepts.

Outputs of Project

The key outcomes, which include innovative pedagogical models, GBL development and implementation processes, and intergenerational approaches, can be transferred to other learning scenarios in different organisations for different learners.

Target Audience

Younger adults (up to 20 years)

Aspects included in Project

  • Technical
  • Pedagogical
  • Cultural

Game Details

The project focuses on GBL in order to provide games that are deeply motivating, engaging and foster learning and training 21st century skills like adaptability, self-direction, risk taking, interactive communication, and prioritisation, that are difficult to teach with normal approaches.
